Ramsgate Tunnels

Ramsgate - a delight to visit for culture, heritage, entertainment, food, beautiful architecture and views

The historic waterfront town of Ramsgate has a lively cosmopolitan feel. Select an alfresco cafĂ©, sip a drink and watch the sun go down over the boats and yachts in the picturesque marina - this Cinque Port limb is the only ‘Royal Harbour’ in the country. 2021 marked 200 years since this title was bestowed by King George IV for the friendly welcome he received, something still enjoyed by visitors today. Enjoy sandy bays either side of this working marina and port.

Ramsgate’s exquisite architecture brings together unique structures like the Italianate Glasshouse, Georgian terraces and Regency villas. Plus buildings designed by pioneering Victorian architect Augustus Pugin – discover more at the visitor centre before seeing his creations on a self-guided walking tour.

Don a hard hat and join an underground tour of the WWII-era Ramsgate Tunnels or delve into the history of computers at The Micro Museum.  Discover the unique Ramsgate Meridian at Ramsgate Maritime Museum, as well as local connections to 'The Titanic' and the area's rich maritime heritage. For something a bit different, head to the recently opened This Museum is (Not) Obsolete, featuring experimental and obsolete electrical and musical items.

Explore Ramsgate’s links to the first Saxons (Hengist and Horsa), to artist Vincent Van Gogh, and authors such as Wilkie Collins and Jane Austen, to name a few...

One of the best ways to see Ramsgate, is on foot or by cycle, getting the best of the great outdoors. Active Ramsgate is a fantastic initiative offering a range of outdoor activities from scenic walking trails to family-friendly cycle routes.  For an unforgettable experience in a corner of England that feels more like a sunny continental coastal town, explore Ramsgate by getting active.
