Founded in London in 2003 by curator Carl Freedman, the Gallery established itself quickly with a critical and curatorially driven programme. It represents emerging British and international artists including Katherine Bernhardt, Ivan Seal, Edith Dekyndt, Pieter Vermeersch, Tori Wranes, Ann Cathrin November Hoibo and Thilo Heinzmann.
Since Spring 2019 the Carl Freedman Gallery has been located in the old Thanet Press building on Union Crescent, adjacent to Margate's Old Town. previously a 1960s commercial establishment, the space spans 10,000 square foot and is also the base for Carl's Counter Editions prints business.
The conversion includes three gallery spaces on the lower floor which are open to the public during exhibitions. Carl Freedman Gallery plan to take full advantage of the opportunities the new space provides.
The gallery’s future programme will include large-scale solo presentations of their artists as well as more expansive curated shows; see website for exhibition details.
The gallery is a short walk from Margate train station. Admission is free to all visitors.
